Kelly Estes and Chris Tubbs, both age-group triathletes based in the USA, have achieved something remarkable with their nutrition. Let’s delve into their experiences to shed light on the unexpected benefits of optimising nutrition for performance.
But first, here’s a little background on Kelly and Chris:
As an athlete, you may have fallen into the trap of believing that an abundance of supplements is essential for success.
Chris and Kelly, just like many others, were hesitant about joining the Academy due to the fear of losing their cherished supplement regimen. They were uncertain how they would feel with a different way of managing their nutrition. However, what they discovered was truly eye-opening.
They had relied on a long list of supplements, including vitamins, collagen, ketones and more. With guidance, they gradually shifted their focus to nutrient-rich, whole foods. Surprisingly, they found that by nourishing their body with proper nutrition, they no longer needed their expensive supplements.
Chris has a multitude of supplement he felt were necessary to manage muscle cramps. However throughout the Academy program, Chris has switched to prioritising hydration and incorporating strength training before turning to pills and potions. By addressing these factors, he is working to overcome his cramping issues all together!
By adopting a periodised eating approach, Chris and Kelly experienced a noticeable boost in energy levels and overall mood before, during and after training.
The transition away from pills and potions was far smoother than they anticipated, and they were astonished by the positive impact it had on their race performances.
Once their nutritional foundation was in place, they noticed they weren’t jumping on every supplement they were advertised (which was something they normally did before!). Food now takes place of all those pills and potions.
To their surprise, they now save approximately $550 USD each month. Conscious grocery shopping and meal preparation have also contributed to significant additional savings. It's a win-win situation—optimal nutrition for performance and a healthier bank balance.
Another thing that helped save money and time was meal prepping in bulk over the weekend. It’s much more cost effective and helps them to make conscious choices in the quality and type of food.
While the financial benefits were unexpected, Chris and Kelly emphasise that their primary goals were to become better triathletes. Investing in nutrition and letting go of unnecessary supplements yielded more than just financial rewards. They experienced a renewed sense of fulfilment, knowing that they are fuelling their bodies efficiently.
The inspiring stories of Kelly and Chris highlight the hidden advantages of optimising nutrition for athletic performance. As an athlete, you can unlock your true potential by reevaluating your reliance on supplements and focusing on nutrient-rich whole foods. Not only will you achieve superior performance levels, but you will also enjoy long-term health benefits. So, take the leap, make conscious choices, and watch as your athletic journey reaches new heights through the power of nutrition.
